No proper design documentation coupled with teams that are not in sync on what frameworks to use, has lead to Sleek’s user interface being dated and inconsistent, which in turn will lead to usability issues as users need to learn and re-learn on how to use various parts of the app.
Creating a shared design system powered by design tokens where developers and designers are always in sync, along with proper documentation ensuring new and current designers will always design in the same way.
Over a span of 6 months, an ad-hoc design system team, consisting of this designer, an intern, and a developer, accomplished the delivery of more than 30 components, covering both Atom and Molecule levels, and additional components are currently in the development pipeline. Feedback from both designers and developers has consistently been positive.
We are actively monitoring the adoption of the new components to gauge their integration into the live app. Additionally, we will be assessing how these components have increased the productivity of both developers and designers.
